We may never know what exactly is the West obsession with Nigeria and Nigerians lately. Even way before the Abdul Mutallab incident, there was a healthy obsession with Nigerians in Holly Wood. They were front and center in District Nine, the epicenter of CBS and Dateline NBC scam documentaries and even the biggest grossing film this year, AVATAR did not fail to mention Nigeria. While Nigeria has been making news due to the recent death of their president and the circumstances that surrounded the events leading up to his death, the BBC found time to squeeze Nigeria to the forefront of media headlines again. It has not been an easy year for our Nigeria indeed, and the latest 3 part documentary by the BBC has split the Nigerian community abroad and at home with some crying foul once more and others siding with the BBC. Seeing that documentary was western produced, I was not expecting a balanced representation of Lagos, but wondering to what extent the facts will be distorted.
2Face aka "U r my African queen" was in the studio with Mary J.B and she was feeling the African vibe from Africa's show guy. We are certainly happy the son of the soil is making moves. However, we would remain mute until we hear what this collaboration sounds like. 2Face keep doing your thing and as you said "What God has blessed, no one can put asunder." You had better bring that fire with this colabo.
Akon stopped by Freetown April 28th and as you can see from the video, the fans went.... I actually lacked words to describe this scene to be honest. The person speaking through out the video in the very distinctive American accent is another character. At the 28sec mark, did he really tell the driver "Run his ass over then!?????! and I still don't understand what he meant with his last comment about supposed "niggers" in the States not being real or something to that effect. Whatever the case, Sierraleon is definitely holding it down for Akon and the love for him is real and the prove is in the video.
Nigeria woke up this morning to startling news reports about citizen harassment and police arrests carried out overnight all over country, for indecent dressing.
In the northern part of the country, a lady ran in fear for her life when she was hounded by a group of men and hissed at by women for not covering her head. One female witness vehemently declared, "Decent women cover their head when they leave their houses. She should go back home and dress well!" In another part of the country, a south-eastern lady was shocked when she was berated by her male colleagues in the office and disrespected by juniors for exposing her arms in a sleeveless blouse.
